Puregold Teatro Panalo 2027: Submit by September 11

For Filipino playwrights with a script sitting unfinished on their laptop, Puregold Teatro Panalo is offering a solid reason to open it again. The new theater festival is now accepting original one-act plays and musicals for its inaugural run in 2027, with only 12 works making the final lineup: eight straight plays and four musicals.

Each selected playwright will receive a ₱100,000 fee, while the festival will shoulder production costs, including the professional fees of the cast and crew. The bigger opportunity, though, is that the chosen scripts will actually be staged before an audience during the festival, which is currently set for sometime between February and March 2027. The venue has yet to be announced.

You do not need to be an established playwright

Puregold Teatro Panalo is open to both amateur and professional playwrights aged 18 and above, so this is not limited to writers who already have a long list of productions or credits behind them. The call is also fairly broad when it comes to genre and style, with comedy, drama, experimental work, musical theater and other approaches welcome.

Scripts may be written in English or any Filipino language. Entries written in regional languages must come with an English translation, which gives writers from different parts of the country room to submit work rooted in their own language and experience.

Each playwright may submit up to two entries, although only one work per applicant can ultimately be selected for the festival.

Only 12 works will reach the stage

The Selection Committee will choose eight straight plays and four musicals from all the submissions, and those 12 works will receive full production support for the festival. Selected playwrights may also recommend a director, although the organizers will have the final say on who will handle the production.

The ₱100,000 fee is a strong incentive, but for writers who have never seen their work move beyond a draft, workshop or reading, the chance to have it professionally staged could matter just as much. A script that has only existed on the page will finally be tested in front of an audience, with actors, direction and a full production around it.

AI can assist, but it cannot write the play

One of the more specific parts of the mechanics is Puregold Teatro Panalo's rule on artificial intelligence. AI-generated creative writing is prohibited, including the use of AI for plot, characters, structure, scenes, dialogue, lyrics and other major creative elements of the work.

The rules do allow AI for non-creative assistance such as general research, fact-checking, organization, formatting and proofreading. In practical terms, the tools can help around the writing process, but the script itself still has to come from the playwright.

The playwright keeps ownership, but there are development rights

Playwrights will retain ownership of their submitted works, while selected writers will grant Wishbone Collective the right to stage and produce them under the terms of the festival. There is also a longer-term provision that applicants should look at carefully before submitting.

Wishbone Collective reserves the right to further develop and stage selected works as full-length theatrical productions for up to five years after the festival run. That opens the possibility of a one-act piece growing into a larger production later on, but it also makes reading the complete mechanics important before agreeing to the terms.

The deadline for submissions is 11:59 PM on September 11, 2026, and applications are being accepted online through the official submission form. The complete festival mechanics are also included there, so writers should go through the details before sending in their work.

With only 12 slots available, the inaugural lineup will be competitive. Still, the offer is substantial: a ₱100,000 fee, professional staging, full production support and the possibility of further development beyond the festival.
