Beyond Gen G: What PETA’s Project GG Includes
When I first wrote about PETA’s Gen G: GG na ’to!, the focus was on the choices audiences would make inside the play. Young people find themselves running a community in a flooded Philippines, and the audience helps decide what happens next. The production is also part of something that extends beyond its performances.
Project GG: Game Changers for Good Governance is a youth-centered theater and civic participation campaign from the Philippine Educational Theater Association and Move to Change Foundation, Inc. Alongside Gen G, it brings together workshops, learning activities, storytelling, and community conversations. PETA describes its aim as giving young people opportunities to practice participation through listening, asking questions, making decisions, and working with others.
The distinction is useful: Gen G is the play, while Project GG is the broader campaign. Its activities connect the production with PETA’s educational and community-based work.
Where Gen G Fits In
Gen G: GG na ’to! had its special preview at the PETA Theater Center on September 17, 2026. The production is scheduled to tour 12 schools from September to December 2026. PETA has clarified that the preview was its only performance at the theater for this presentation, with the show primarily designed for the school tour.
Inside the play’s Balangay Gen Zones, young people must decide how to live together after the adults who promised to return fail to arrive. Audience members participate through votes, choices, and negotiations. The questions concern the community they are helping shape: who gets heard, what takes priority, and how a decision affects someone else.
What Project GG Includes Beyond the Show
Project GG also includes activities where participants can discuss and explore questions outside the fictional world of the Balangay. PETA identifies workshops, learning spaces, community conversations, and other participatory activities as parts of the campaign.
Through PETA Lingap Sining, the organization continues Control + Shift: Changing Narratives in partnership with Friedrich Naumann Foundation and Misereor. Its activities include the Control + Shift Live! Narrative Change StudioLab, a narrative change educational series, workshops, and fora. The project uses theater and creative exchange to examine how stories shape ideas about power, identity, and social change.
PETA ARTSZone, meanwhile, is working on ARTSZone: Reclaiming Democratic Spaces for Children through Global Citizenship Education, with support from Terre des Hommes Germany and Dachser. The project includes research, the development of learning modules, and arts-based community initiatives focused on youth civic participation.
These are related activities with their own formats and timelines, rather than additional performances of Gen G. Watching the play, attending a workshop, and taking part in a community initiative are different ways of encountering the subjects Project GG brings together.
What Has Been Announced So Far
PETA has outlined related learning and engagement activities for September to November 2026, including an educational series, a StudioLab, and a forum. The announcements do not yet provide a complete public schedule with registration details for each activity, so these should not be treated as events with confirmed booking arrangements.
The broader programs also operate on different timelines. The September to December 2026 dates refer specifically to the Gen G school tour, not to every initiative associated with Project GG.
I previously covered PETA’s April 2026 Control + Shift: Changing Narratives StudioLab. That earlier article provides background on the project, but its April performance dates should not be confused with the activities being announced now.
Following Project GG
For readers who encountered Project GG through the play, the update is that its scope includes more than the school tour. PETA and M2C are connecting the production with educational and community activities, while the individual programs address storytelling, Global Citizenship Education, and participation in different ways.
