Puregold Teatro Panalo Opens Script Call
There are plenty of calls for scripts. There are fewer that say, plainly, what happens if your script is chosen.
Puregold Teatro Panalo has laid out its offer: 12 original Filipino one-act plays and musicals will be selected for production, with each playwright receiving Php 100,000. The writers will also enter a development program led by Wishbone Collective, Inc., with dramaturgical guidance, production support, and a live staging.
For playwrights, that is the detail worth pausing over. A script can be finished and still remain stuck in the folder where it was saved. A festival cannot solve every problem surrounding new writing, but a production commitment, a paid development process, and an audience give a writer more to work with than exposure alone.
What Puregold Teatro Panalo is offering
Presented by Puregold and produced and organized by Wishbone Collective, Teatro Panalo is an inaugural festival for original one-act straight plays and musicals by Filipino playwrights. Eight straight plays and four musicals are expected to receive full production.
After the festival, one straight play and one musical are also set to receive full-length development grants. The inaugural run is currently scheduled for February to March 2027.
The project is a noticeable entry into Philippine theater from a major retailer. It is easy to announce support for the arts. It is harder to fund rehearsal, development, collaborators, and a stage. Those are the parts of the process Teatro Panalo is built around. The program will be judged by the work that eventually reaches an audience, but the structure gives writers a concrete reason to take the submission seriously.
Puregold Senior Marketing Manager Ivy Hayagan-Piedad said the company wants to create a space where people can gather, exchange ideas, and see Filipino artistry onstage. Festival Director Vincent de Jesus said the team is looking for authentic voices, fresh perspectives, and stories that deserve to be staged, with theater practitioners helping playwrights develop the selected works.
Who can apply, and what the deadline requires
The call is open to amateur and professional Filipino playwrights aged 18 and above at the time of application. Entries may be in Filipino or English. They must be original one-act straight plays or musicals intended to run for about 35 to 40 minutes.
Adaptations, translations, and AI-generated creative works are not eligible. Every entry must include a completed script, synopsis, logline, playwright's development vision, and supporting documents. Musical entries also need demo recordings.
Entries are due by 11:59 p.m. on September 11, 2026. A shortlist of 16 plays and eight musicals will be announced on October 6. Shortlisted applicants will present their work to the Selection Committee from October 14 to 16, with the final selection of eight straight plays and four musicals scheduled for announcement on October 16.
The practical reading of the guidelines is simple: this is not a call for a premise you have been meaning to write. The script has to be done, and it has to hold up when someone else starts asking what it needs to become a production.
Complete mechanics, eligibility requirements, and the official submission form are available through Puregold Teatro Panalo.
