What is Kate Liu in Recital Manila 2026? It is a classical piano concert at Ayala Museum in Makati City on May 2, 2026, featuring pianist Kate Liu in a program of works by Chopin, Schumann, and Brahms.
Liu first drew major international attention during the 17th International Fryderyk Chopin Competition in Warsaw, where she won Third Prize, the Best Mazurka Prize, and the Audience Favorite Prize through Polish National Radio. Those distinctions helped establish her as one of the most compelling interpreters of Chopin of her generation, with audiences responding not only to her technical control but also to the poetic character of her playing.
That background makes this Manila recital especially appealing. Chopin remains central to Liu’s artistic identity, and this program allows local audiences to hear her in repertoire that balances intimacy, lyricism, and scale. The evening opens with Chopin’s 4 Mazurkas, Op. 30, continues with the composer’s Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat Minor, Op. 35, moves into Schumann’s Arabeske in C Major, Op. 18, and concludes with Brahms’ Piano Sonata No. 1 in C Major, Op. 1.
Why Kate Liu in Manila matters
Classical music audiences in the Philippines do not often get the chance to hear internationally recognized pianists in focused solo recital settings, especially in programs built around cornerstone Romantic repertoire. Kate Liu’s Philippine debut adds weight to Veniccio’s ongoing effort to bring major artists to Filipino listeners while also reinforcing Ayala Museum as a venue for intimate, high-caliber performances in Makati.
For audiences who know Liu primarily through the Chopin Competition, the Manila concert offers a chance to hear the artistry behind the accolades in person. Chopin’s Mazurkas are closely associated with her musical voice, while Schumann’s Arabeske and Brahms’ First Sonata broaden the emotional range of the evening from delicacy to grandeur.
Kate Liu in Recital Manila 2026 program
- Frédéric Chopin – 4 Mazurkas, Op. 30
- Frédéric Chopin – Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat Minor, Op. 35
- Robert Schumann – Arabeske in C Major, Op. 18
- Johannes Brahms – Piano Sonata No. 1 in C Major, Op. 1
The program itself is worth highlighting. Chopin’s Mazurkas draw from Polish dance rhythms and national character, while the Second Sonata includes the famous Funeral March. Schumann’s Arabeske shifts the mood toward something more delicate and dreamlike. Brahms’ First Sonata closes the evening with a work of youthful ambition and orchestral force.
